It’s always about this time of year that I get a trail cam picture that a buddy sends me and almost immediately, in a wimpy, whiny, pouty little kids voice I say to myself, “Man... I wish I had those kind of deer to go after.”  It’s almost always this time of year that I find myself having a case of what I call “Buck Envy”.

While most of us may not have a “Booner” to go after, the odds are, we’ve probably still got some pretty decent bucks to chase, given our area and if we continue to manage our heard right and only shoot mature bucks (4 years or older), it will only be a matter of time before that Booner does in fact show up.  It’s then, that you’re buddies will be jealous of your deer.  Just like everything in life, Rome wasn’t built over night and neither is a 170” deer.  Just keep practicing good quality deer management and keep pluggin away and eventually, you’ll have that monster to go after.  In the mean time, “Albert” (the deer above) isn’t a bad deer to go after.  Yeah... I know, he looks young, but he’s a 4.5 year old and his left side has always been weak, so I’m puttin him on the hit-list.
