Shed hunting is a perfect way to gain access to some of those private farms, that you normally wouldn’t be able to, during deer season. Because deer season is over and turkey season is not yet in, most farmers and even other hunters will let you walk their properties to find sheds. And even though you may NEVER get the opportunity to hunt that piece of property, you can still learn a lot about deer movement in general, just by shed hunting and walking out other properties. It allows you to see other guys‘ setups and how they’re hunting their deer, as well as being able to see how the deer move on that particular piece of property, based on the deer sign you see (like sheds, rubs, trails and scrapes).
Even though sheds can be hard to come by and even though you may NEVER get to hunt that piece of ground, shed hunting is still a great excuse to spend even more time in the great outdoors. And who knows... as long as you keep a good relationship with that particular farmer... he might just blow your mind and let you hunt some day in the future.
