Due to all this talk about “banning guns”, I haven’t made a blog post for quite awhile. This is an issue that I’ve wanted to write about for some time, but wanted to make sure that I gave it plenty of thought, before I just set down and started writing the first thoughts that came to mind.
This issue seems to weigh heavily on the minds of this country, as we are ALL witnessing it on trial, before a jury of our countries top leaders and Americans everywhere. This topic seems to have the attention of our country right now. Possibly, more than any other issue I’ve ever seen. Not only does this topic have the attention of our entire country, but it also seems to be the first MAJOR division and split of this country that I’ve ever seen. Something that certainly should be addressed, in my opinion.
I realize that this is a very touching topic for a lot of people and is a stance that one can hold very strongly, one way or the other. With that being said, I want ALL of you to know that I write this with the utmost thought and respect for my fellow countrymen, wanting ALL of us (everyone of us who loves this country) to see what’s really at stake here. Regardless of whether you’re for or against this gun ban, I hope that you will read this with an open mind... with the sole purpose of helping to restore this great country.
With much thought, time and consideration....... (sigh) here goes nothing!
In years past, I never really liked talking about “politics”. I never really knew much about them (not that I’m an expert now) and I always seemed to have better things to do with my time than to get involved in them. Sadly, it wasn’t until several years ago, that I really even started to care what our government was doing, but now with all this “gun ban” talk and as I see our nation CLEARLY starting to divide, I find myself wanting to get more and more involved and figure out what’s going on.
In regards to the “gun ban” issue, I want to try and focus on the heart of the issue. I want to try and attack the very root of the problem... because until we start there, all we have is an epidemic that we’re merely slowing down... at best. Whenever you can turn on your television and witness someone murdering their own mother, along with TWENTY 6 and 7 year old children and six other adults, you KNOW that there’s an obvious problem. Whenever teenagers and adults alike, not only have the notions of, but are even willing to carry out the acts of brutally murdering family and friends, you know that there’s a serious problem with our country.
Possibly worse than that, is the rest of us (innocent bystanders) who have seen enough of these circumstances, that we are now starting to EXPECT them to happen. We’ve witnessed enough of these shootings, that it has almost become a way of life for us. We’ve witnessed so many of these, that we’re becoming more and more immune to them... and unless we’re directly effected by it, we really don’t pay much attention to it anymore. Sure, we’ll speak of the event in the days to come, but it’s only as a social outlet. It provides us with some “common ground” and it gives us something to talk about with the people that we normally wouldn’t have much to say otherwise (people like our barber or that co-worker we rarely speak with at lunch). If we’re honest with ourselves, sure we feel sorry for those involved and we wish that bad things like that didn’t happen, but deep down inside you’ll find that we don’t care nearly as much as we say we do.
Unfortunately, these mass murderings are just one of the MANY types of evils that exist in our world today. And unfortunately, there’s several more acts that are just as depraved and gross as these shootings, if not more so (need we even mention them).
(sigh)..... Now I want to respectfully ask that you please take a minute to pause.............................
I want you to know, that I’m about to share with you, are the deepest concerns of a dying heart. I want you to hear every word that I’m about to say, as if these were the last words you’d ever hear in your life.
(sigh)............ MY FEAR...... is that we’re slowly desensitizing ourselves. The more we encounter the evils of this world, the more immune we start to become towards them. And the more immune we become towards them, the more likely we are to start accepting them as our future moral standards. And even though it happens slow and subtly (as it always does), it still leads to a sick and depraved society that has absolutey NO moral standards of any kind.
Another sad reality that contributes to the moral decay in our society, is all this “political correctness”. We don’t want to “offend” anybody and therefore have to accept EVERYTHING, even if we know that it’s wrong at the core of our being.
Either way, both of these eventually lead us to a very sad and dark place, where moral boundaries cease to exist. History even reflects this. What’s acceptable now, wasn’t acceptable 30 years ago. Just look at the ratings on movies today, compared to the ratings 10 or 20 years ago. Look at what we now accept as “morally ok” for teens that we didn’t back then. Please note, that the boundaries and standards of today, are being tried and tested (daily), until society accepts and eventually adopts them as the new moral standards.
There is a toxic, cancerous, disease of immorality, that’s slowly spreading across our country and is morally rotting us all out, from the inside out and I don’t want to merely slow it down... I want to stop it all together! Not only do I want to stop it, but I then want to take all of those that have been effected by it and work on restoring them back to good health.
The problem with humanity, is that NONE of us... are perfect. The problem with humanity, is the fact that we’ve ALL done things that are morally wrong... and what’s even worse than that, is the fact that even after we recognize and acknowledge the shortcomings in our own life, we’re still so easily enticed and tempted into committing them again in the future. The problem with humanity, is the fact that NONE of us can do what is morally right ALL of the time, EVERYTIME. The problem with humanity, is the fact that NONE of us are qualified to save the rest of us... “For we have ALL sinned and we have ALL fallen short of the glory of God” - Romans 3:23
The problem with humanity... is humanity.
I know that it’s not “politically correct” these days, to say that there’s something wrong with us, because we’ve all been conditioned to believe that it’s somebody else’s fault... and I know that we ALL want to think that we’re pretty decent people for the most part (after all... many of us do more good in this world than bad) and therefore, don’t need a “savior”.
Even though most of us might consider ourselves “good” people, the fact of the matter, is that even one set back, even one evil act, no matter how great or small it may be, caused hurt and pain to someone, somewhere. And because our Creator is in fact a “just” and “righteous” God, He HAS to punish that sin. If He didn’t, He could not be a “just” and righteous God. A crime has been committed and therefore a price has to be paid.
Luckily for us, “God so loved the world, that He sent His one and only son, that who ever believes in Him, should not perish, but have everlasting life.” - John 3:16
Luckily for us, God sent His Son to die for us. God punished His own Son for the sins that YOU and I have committed... and if we confess our sins before Him, “He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from ALL unrighteousness.”
The cure for a broken country....... is Jesus Christ.
