It’s been awhile since I’ve been camping and I was over due on a good idea for a date night, so I decided to buy a tent at Wal-Mart, a few camping supplies and romance the wife with a night under the stars. While the rest of life seems to be crazy and hectic, sitting next to a campfire seems to slow everything else down. It gives a man time for thought and reflection and it gives you time to think more clearly than ever. It allows you to step away from the business of life and put things in perspective.
As the evening sun slowly disappeared beyond the horizon, the moon and stars brought with them an even greater peace and solitude. It seemed as though the entire universe was put on pause and all that existed was you and your Creator. The cool evening breeze, creeping through the trees was the only thing that could be heard and even that seemed to give one peace of mind.
While my wife and I laid there, looking up at the stars, it reminded me of why the older generations are such hard working, good people. TV’s and touch-screens were never a priority in their life. All they ever had were the joys of their labor, the peace of the wilderness and the companionship of each other. What more can a man ask for?
